A delightful twist on a classic snack, these Cheesy Bean Swirls are perfect for any occasion.
Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Lining the tray ensures the swirls won't stick and makes cleanup easier.
In a bowl, mix the baked beans, grated cheese, sliced salami, and chopped spring onions. Set aside.
Draining some of the sauce from the baked beans prevents the filling from being too wet.
In another bowl, sift the self-raising flour. Add the butter and rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Cold butter works best for achieving a crumbly texture.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk. Mix gently to form a soft dough.
Avoid overmixing to keep the dough tender.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Roll it out into a rectangle about 20x30 cm.
Flour the rolling pin to prevent sticking.
Spread the bean mixture evenly over the dough rectangle.
Leave a small border around the edges to make rolling easier.
Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Slice into 12 equal pieces.
Use a sharp knife for clean cuts.
Place the slices cut-side up on the prepared tray. Brush with milk and bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
Rotate the tray halfway through baking for even browning.
Serve the swirls warm and enjoy!
These are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven.
